The Hamilton Libertarian Party strives to be a party of principle. A party of principle must take a bold stand on the issues of the day. As a matter of basic principle, the Hamilton County Libertarian party advocates the reduction of government intervention in all areas. The Hamilton County Libertarian party opposes any increases in taxation. The Hamilton County Libertarian Party stands in firm support of individual and economic liberties and strives to protect these at all costs.

The Hamilton County Libertarian Party's view on local Government

Libertarians believe our local government should live within its means. Priorities should be set instead of trying to accomplish too many costly projects at one time. Libertarians believe that local government should be the highest authority in the political structure. Libertarians oppose the use of taxpayer money in private ventures. Specifically, we oppose downtown development projects such as the Chattanoogan, which obligated public funds to a city-owned hotel complex downtown in spite of the protests of local business and property owners.

The Hamilton County Libertarian Party's view on state Government

Libertarians consistently oppose the state income tax and any other tax increase. Libertarians are in favor of spending reform. TennCare is a major drain on the state's budget and should be completely ended or reformed. State tax dollars should not be used to fund professional sports arenas, new golf courses, lobbyists for our state legislature and sports tickets for state legislators. Spending reform will free up our tax dollars and eliminate the need for a sales tax on food. Tennessee has raised taxes 32 times in the 1980s and 20 in the 1990s. How much more of our money do we have to give for the Democrats and Republicans to be satisfied? Libertarians always work to reduce wasteful spending instead of continually taking more money in taxes. According to the 10th Amendment to the Constitution for the United States, "...all powers not delegated to the federal government in the Constitution are reserved to the states and to the people." Therefore, such issues as education, retirement, roads, and all others should be handled on a state or local level.

The Hamilton County Libertarian Party's view on national Government

Libertarians support the Constitution for the United States, including Article 1, Section 8 which lists the powers granted to the federal government by the states. If the federal government only did the few things it was authorized to do, there would be no need for a federal income tax, and Americans would no longer be forced to pay an average of 47% of their incomes in taxes.
